After weeks of government shutdown, elected leaders placed last minute language into the desperately needed legislation to reopen. It was fast tracked through and denial of other much needed language was left out - going from Senate to House to President's desk in a mind-blowing few days, which included a Sunday and Veteran's Day.
The efforts were done methodically - intentionally - but not without notice by hundreds of thousands of American mothers, fathers, patients, farmers and veterans.
This language DOES NOT "protect the kids" - shutters a lawful multi-billion dollar American industry, will costs hundred of thousands of American jobs, and denies legal access to an American plant medicine for thousands upon thousands of American patients who have found relief and legal accessibility for years.
This is not about "protecting the kids" - or the first step would have been to make sure the kids who are disabled, chronically / terminally ill who need this legal access because other options don't work, have horrible side effects, are too expensive.
What about those kids? American kids who need this plant - are they not worthy?
It's not about stopping "the bad players" from making money by selling intoxicants to kids - if that were the case, alcohol and tobacco would be illegal rather than regulated.
This was a deliberate effort for a handful to make big money at Americans' expense.
But why take away the kids' legal, effective medicine rather than punishing those few bad actors that took advantage of an amazing, blossoming American industry - there are always bad actors. They are usually the ones behind the demise of others' progress and success. This time is no different.
If our elected leaders would do that to one plant, they could do it to any plant.
This language brings back prohibition, and it's not what most Americans want, or need. It's a manipulation, it's a betrayal to our Constitution and every American. Our right to choose what we consume is for some - life and death; for others - a better option; for all Americans - our Constitutional Rights, and we don't give those away, they are taken.
These developments represent a major shift in national hemp policy — one that will strip patients, veterans, and small businesses of lawful access to life-changing hemp-derived medicine.
I's not just the extreme consequences of this action, but the action itself that is the true violation of our Constitutional rights.
Inserting language into legislation on a Sunday that was being voted on that next day, is not the American way. It's manipulative, deceptive and intended - not for the betterment of Americans or America - but for the profit of the few.
It's not about which plant - it's about our Constitutional rights as Americans to choose and use which plants work for us, our family or people we care about.
Unacceptable. UnAmerican. The Moms are coming!
